Gems from Juzz Amma: "Except if Allah wills"

~ Gems from Juzz Amma ~
Day 4 / Gem 4
Surah Takwir, 29: "Except if Allah wills"
وَمَا تَشَاءُونَ إِلَّا أَن يَشَاءَ اللَّهُ رَبُّ الْعَالَمِينَ
"And you do not will except that Allah wills – Lord of the worlds. (mankind, jinns and all that exists)."
In other words, "What are you going to solidly intend except if Allah wills?"
If you look at the structure of the ayah, *you* were mentioned first, indicating that you must take your first step. Whatever your seeking; marriage, a new job, good grades in your exams - you must make that first move. Then Allah is mentioned next. So when you have done your part, trust in Allah and leave it to Him.
Allah could have used any of His names here, yet he chose "Rabb" – this word is constantly related to guidance in the Qur’an. Why wouldn’t your caring Provider want to guide you to what He loves? Of course he would. So do your bit and He will guide you to that good.
The surah begins with some of the most enormous manifestations of Allah’s will. So what intents are you going to make except by the will of Allah? You can’t. So you must do your bit and ask Him to help you in that guidance. And be certain that He will help you – for He is the One who even has the power to change the way the universe runs.
Gem: Allah’s message in this Surah is leading humans from thoughts and understandings to actions and implementation of Allah’s guidance and understanding that nothing happens outside of His will.
May Allah bless our affairs and grant us the good our hearts desire, ameen.
