Mahatma Gandhi's: "You know somebody well for their treatment towards their animals."
"A person who harms or kills animals cannot be a good person at all." - Schopenhauer
SubhanAllah, as part of my work on Psychology I happened to stumble across these quotes. Its pretty amazing when you think about it. This was already taught to humanity, over 1400 years ago, by our Prophet (Salallahu Alayhi Wasallam) who told us to be kind and compassionate towards even animals. There are examples of people who showed kindness and good treatment to animals despite their other deeds, and so were rewarded with Jannah, whilst others who mistreated them, were recompensed with Hell.
Abu Huraira reported: The Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, said, “A prostitute saw a dog lolling around a well on a hot day and hanging his tongue from thirst. She drew some water for it in her shoe, so Allah forgave her.” [Sahih Muslim]
This is why character is so important. One way to measure an individuals character, is the way they treat the neglected, the poor, the vulnerable, the elderly, the child, and even the animal.
